The Friends of the Art Museum and the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum collaborated on a youth art project, What’s your Story?
Over 40 young artists from the Nelson Mandela Bay area attended a walkabout of the exhibition currently on show at the Art Museum, titled "The art and legacy of George Pemba – a contemporary response”.
During the walkabout, they looked at George Pemba’s artworks in the exhibition and they were shown how the contemporary artists responded to his artworks. They were challenged to create artworks that represents their own stories and to respond with their own contemporary artworks.
The Friends fully funded the project and purchased the art materials, arranged the transport and served a light lunch on the day of the walkabout.
There are 45 artworks on display and are for sale.
An opening event was held on the 26th August 2023.
