About Conservation

The focus of the department has been on preventative conservation, with the aim of conserving our collections, ensuring that the collections are correctly stored, handled and that the lighting and atmosphere is conducive to their preservation.

The Conservation Department was started at the Art Museum in 1972.

The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum is a registered institutional member of the IIC (International Institute for Conservation).

The Conservation Department is currently housed in the Main Gallery.

Conservation Studio staff can assist with enquiries made by email or phone. All consultations are by appointment only.

NB:  NO MONETARY EVALUATIONS WILL BE GIVEN
