This exhibition celebrated the last five years of new acquisitions to the permanent art collection of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality housed at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum.
Selected artworks of local artists, from the City's permanent collection is on display.
In 2018 and 2019 art lovers around the city showed their commitment to support local creative talent in the Eastern Cape by buying tickets to the Museum Gala, a fundraising effort initiated by the Friends of the Art Museum aimed at raising money to buy local art. The principal funder for this glamourous fashion event was Adrian Gardiner and the Mantis Collection.
Through this initiative the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum and Red Location Gallery were able to acquire new art for the City’s collection.
Substantial additional funding was added to the project in 2020 and 2021 by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to ensure that this prestigious collection continues to reflect the story of art in the region.
