The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum will be shutting down from 27 March to 16 April 2020 in line with National efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
The LITHUBA LAKHO (THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY): TOP EASTERN CAPE CRAFT EXHIBITION AND COMPETITION has been installed and we are very excited to share with the public pictures of the amazing work submitted for this year’s exhibition. This project is made possible through the collaboration of the Art Museum and the Eastern Cape Development Corporation. Over one hundred crafters and designers have been selected to take part in the fifth instalment of this exhibition and we will be sharing images of the selected works online so you can do some browsing in preparation for the exhibition’s opening.
We also have an exciting new call for entries. We are challenging fabric artists and artists who want to try fabric to transform the everyday into textiles and textiles into art. The theme ‘transformational textiles’ has been left intentionally open to allow for multiple interpretations. We are looking for non-traditional approaches to fabric where transitional media are transformed to make creative and innovative works. The closing date is mid-July for digital submissions. The entry form will be available online after the national shutdown.
