UMBHIYOZO - CELEBRATING PEMBA
The Art & Legacy of George Milwa Mnyaluza Pemba
The Red Location Art Gallery and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum are commemorating the legacy of George Pemba by inviting contemporary artists to submit work for an exhibition opening on 17 June 2023.
Artists are challenged to make new works that reflect, revision, reinterpret, reimagine, excavate, interrogate, celebrate, contemplate, reconsider; re-examine; interact with; inquire; remaking; honour George Pemba in any medium.
The call-out is open to all artists 18 years or older as of 1 January 2023 from across South Africa.
Each artist can submit a maximum of 3 artworks for selection for the exhibition. These may take the form of sets or assemblages. Entries must be the ORIGINAL WORK of the artist.
Artworks must not exceed 4 x 2 x 2 meters and weigh over 200 kgs due to the venue size.

SUBMMSSION: For consideration each artist must email digital submissions to nmm.artmuseum1956@gmail.com before or on 12 May 2023.

Each submission must include:
Completed entry form.
(5 or less) Digital images of the three submissions. Each artist must submit a maximum of five high-resolution images per entry, consisting of two views of the work in its entirety and three close-up views for the selection panel to evaluate technique.
CV of the artist.
Maximum 500-word motivation for the works to be considered for the exhibition.
The selection panel with include the Chief Curator of the Red Location Art Gallery and Head of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum and art professionals from three top Eastern Cape Universities.
Artists selected through the digital submission process will be invited to exhibit their work at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum.
PRIZE MONEY: R 50 000 will be presented to the best work on show and R 10 000 towards most promising on exhibition. Winners will be selected by a special committee. Please note that works on the exhibition will be considered for the collection by the existing Nelson Mandela Bay Municipal Art Collection selection committee.
